Bill Tolley - Artist

Bill Tolley studied at St Martin's School of Art in London. He is well educated in philosophy but does not consider this knowledge as a source of inspiration for his work. He believes that if an artist has a need to paint for money that the image lacks the capture of genuine feeling and honesty. Bill Tolley is of the view that many artists spoil their work by intellectualising it considering that philosophy is an intellectual subject. He states that 'if you evaluate art it automatically looses that magical feeling'. His is not contrived but rather evolves making his paintings so intriguing. He also states that 'Philosophy satisfies the mind, whereas painting satisfies the emotions, painting is not about being logical it is done emotionally'. Bill Tolley has gained success through his shared and one man exhibitions both nationally and internationally.
