Ian Francis - Artist

Ian Francis was born in Bristol in 1979, he studied at the University of the West of England and graduated with a degree in illustration. Ian Francis is inspired by the mixed media effects within Dave McKeans work, the textures created by Stanley Donwood and the fantastic compositions of Reggie Pedro. There is an apocalyptic feel to his work and his interests lie in celebrities, small inter-personal relationships and life. He states, "Against the backdrop are a lot of huge apocalyptic things that you read about or see in the news that aren't always immediately obvious when you walk out the door". His work is created using a mixture of drawing, photography and painting these are all layered together with scans of textures then digitally edited. In his own words, "My work is about modern life, particularly television, world events, celebrities and day to day living".
