Jack Vettriano - Artist

Jack Vettriano, born in Scotland in 1951 left school aged sixteen to work in the local coalfields as a mining engineer. He received his first set of watercolour paints as a present for his twenty-first birthday and began to teach himself to paint. Jack Vettriano was gained much of his inspiration from the 19th and 20th century Scottish paintings housed in the Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery. In 1990 he entered three paintings to The Royal Academy in London for the Summer Exhibition. His paintings received an enthusiatic response from this particularly prestigious show. The work he exhibited in New York in 1999 was extreemly successful, selling every piece within the first hour. Jack Vettriano has accquired a large fan base largely due to the worldwide distribution of posters and orignal prints of his paintings. Jack Vettrianos' paintings are very popular and to date over 500,000 have been sold.
