Joe Hargan was born in 1952 in Glasgow and attended the Glasgow School of Art to study drawing and painting. Joe Hargan's painting are immediately recognisable and renowned for their diversity following in the style of the colourist Scottish paintings. His inspiration comes from many sources including, the colourful work of Mark Rothko and the Art of the Italian Renaissance. His work is exhibited widely in prestigious venues such as, the Royal Society of Watercolours, the Paisley Art Institute, the National Portrait Gallery and the Royal Scottish Academy of Art. Joe Hargan also held an eleven year post as the Chairman and President of the Paisley Art Institute. Throughout his established and successful career as an artist he has gained many awards for his efforts including, 1982 Torrance Award, Royal Glasgow Institute, 1986 Hunting Art Group Prize-winner, Mall Galleries, 1993 The Contemporary Fine Art Award, The Paisley Art Institute, 2001 Maude Gemmell Hutchison Prize, Royal Scottish Academy of Art, these are to name but a few awards he has received. John Hargan's work is exhibited all over the world and amongst his many collectors are the BBC and the Kuwaiti Royal Family.
