John Chisnall - Artist

John Chisnall spent the first twenty years of his life in Carshalton, Surrey where he was born in 1943. Whilst working as a qualified chartered surveyor he developed an interest in drawing and painting. In 1992 he left his position in the public service to embark on a full time career painting. John Chisnall spent three years studying life drawing at the Sutton School of Art but considers himself to be self taught. He now resides in Coulsdon, Surrey where he paints full time from his studio. His preferred medium is watercolour although he has experimented with various mediums over the years. John Chisnall captures the detail and atmosphere of a scene and believes the medium of watercolour is well suited for this. His work ignores the darker side of modern life and his paintings are direct celebrations of visual pleasure.
