John Holt - Artist

Born in 1949 near Manchester, John Holt left school to study graphic design and advertising at Stockport College of Art. He transfered to the Salford College of Art to complete the final year of his degree. The Royal Society of Arts awarded him the prestigious Bursary Award for his efforts. After graduating John Holt worked for the European market as an art director, illustration and designing books. His love of fine art grew at this time and he was greatly inspired by the Spanish and French post-impressionist painters including Matisse, Braque and the Fauvist masters. John Holt uses bright greens, yellows and oranges in his pastel and oil works to deliberately exaggerate the deep shadows and strong sunlight in his scenes creating a very Mediterranean feel. His hill towns, Provincal landscapes, harbour reflections and cafe scenes have gained him a strong reputation. John Holt has exhibited his work both in the UK and overseas. The Fine Art Trade Guild nominated John Holt as 'Best Up and Coming Artist in 1999 and 2000. There is a huge demand for his limited edition prints from his original oil and pastel work as well as his beautiful silk-screens.
