Lawrie Williamson - Artist

Lawrie Williamson was born in 1932, he attended the Nottingham College of Art, the University of Nottingham and the L'ecole des Beaux Arts. By the age of sixteen he had become 'Major Exhibitioner'. He won two awards from the Royal Institute of Oil Painters at their annual exhibition, namely the 'Stanley Grimm' and the 'Cornellison'. Lawrie Williamson now lives and works in Ireland and recently issues this statement, "Since the Art Council's assurance that 'paintings dead' I have taken great comfort from the observation of my good friend Brian Sewell that 'it isn't'. Thus I remain gainfully employed and eternally grateful for his wisdom and support".
