Mick Cawston - Artist

Born in 1959 in Dagenham, Mick Cawston won his first art related competition at the age of seven. Mick Cawston trained as a cabinet maker after leaving school then signed up to the army for the following three years where he worked as a motorcycle messenger around the streets of London. Through this job he saved enough money to begin his travels to Europe and it was touring Europe where his strong passion for drawing grew. Mick Cawston returned to London where he sketched portraits on the streets around Covent Garden and started a job designing silverwear for a London silversmith. Mick Cawston was unable to make a sufficient living from selling his street sketches and by the early part of 1987 began to seriously paint in oils. By the end of 1987 he had two prints published as limited editions. By 1996 Mick Cawston had published his 200th print entitled 'Wildlife 200'. The original canvas was donated to the Animal Health Trust where it reached an auction price of £3000. Mick Cawston's work has been compared to that of John Emms and Maude Earl and is recognised as one of the very finest dog painters in the world. His work has been featured in publications such as Countryman's Weekly, Sporting Gun, Gundogs Magazine and Deerstalking Magazine. His work is highly collectable and features in many private collections all over the world.
