Paul Kavanagh - Artist

Paul Kavanagh's formal art training has been somewhat sporadic. Although being offered a place at art college he chose to study History and Education to degree level. He undertook subsidiary art related courses whilst studying for his degree. Paul Kavanagh made the decision to paint professional and attended classes, tutored by the academician Fred Cuming. His strengths were developed in terms of draughtsmanship, colour and creating atmosphere within a painting. These elements have remained constant and are central to his work. The paintings of Paul Kavanagh tell a story with the narrative being an intrinsic part of the painting. The background is equally important, the distinctive cityscape of Paris with its boulevards and cafes, the rain soaked streets and the reflections captured during the twilight hours. The city of Paris is a great source of inspiration for Paul Kavanagh and a city to which he frequently travels.
