Robin Pickering - Artist

Robin Pickering's interest in art began in his teenage years whilst visiting antique shops, galleries and art auctions. He soon became obsessed with collecting original oil and watercolour paintings an began to trade buying and selling. His passion was further indulged when he was asked to run a small commercial gallery. Robin Pickering had never painted and it wasn't until mid life when he decided to venture into it. He learnt to draw first by attending a life drawing class and for the following two years used nothing but charcoal. He went on to try a painting holiday in Italy and it was here he discovered his love for painting. From this point on he drew inspiration from the Cornish landscape surrounding him. He began to exhibit his works in small scale exhibitions to test the market and then in 1997 embarked on a full time career as a painter. Italy , Venice and Tuscany have been the inspiration for his pastel works and the landscapes of Devon have ignited his passion for oil painting.
