The quintessentially English paintings of Simon Palmer have a distinctive quality about them through their quirky perspectives and hidden narratives. The surrealism of Stanley Spencer and William Morris' tonal qualities are also reminiscent in the situations represented. Simon Palmer was encouraged to study landscape painting by his tutors at Reigate School of Art and Design even though he was enrolled on a graphic design and illustration course. He has exhibited his paintings at both the Bohun Gallery and the Royal Academy from 1991-1992. In May 1995 he was voted by The Independent as 'the critics choice' he also had an article written profiling him by the Artists and Illustrators Magazine in November 1995. Simon Palmer now lives and works in the North of England where he finds the scenery around him a constant source of inspiration.
