Stephen Doig was born in 1964 in Oxford. From a very young age he has shown an interest in art loved to paint and draw. After school he joined the army and spent a period in various other professions before embarking on a full time career in art. His dramatic life studies portraying the skill, movement and speed of football and rugby are a combination of his love of sport and artistic talent. Stephen Doig began working in pencil and proved himself to be an exceptional draughtsman. He now uses colour and produces stunning pastel works and accomplished paintings combining an essential atmosphere with depth and accuracy. In 1997 Stephen Doig was awarded the title 'Best New Artist of the Year' by the Fine Art Trade Guild. He is also regarded as one of the country's top contemporary sports artist.
